Professional Biography
From classical cardiac surgery to robotic excellence — a complete patient-centered approach.
Prof. Dr. Saygın Türkyılmaz is a senior cardiac and vascular surgeon based at Medipol Mega University Hospital in Istanbul. After completing his medical education at Süleyman Demirel University in 2005, he trained in Cardiac and Vascular Surgery at Istanbul University's Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, one of Turkey's most prestigious institutions, qualifying as a specialist in 2011.
Over the past fifteen years, he has built a reputation as one of the leading cardiovascular surgeons in Turkey, with particular expertise in coronary artery bypass grafting, heart valve repair and replacement, aortic root surgery, peripheral arterial and venous disease, and minimally invasive cardiac procedures. His publication portfolio of nearly thirty international peer-reviewed studies covers comparative cardioplegia techniques, pharmacomechanical thrombectomy, paclitaxel-coated balloon angioplasty, and outcomes of robotic cardiac surgery.
Patients travelling to him from the Middle East, the Gulf, Europe, and Central Asia benefit from Medipol's JCI-accredited cardiac center, advanced imaging, Da Vinci robotic surgery program, and fully equipped cardiac ICUs. Prof. Türkyılmaz is known for his clear communication, careful pre-operative planning, and a recovery protocol that emphasizes early mobilization, pain control, and structured cardiac rehabilitation.
Every heart that comes to me deserves the best technology, the most experienced hands, and a deeply personal commitment. My job is to make complex surgery feel as safe as possible — and to send patients home stronger than when they arrived.

Multi-vessel bypass surgery using arterial and venous grafts, including off-pump (beating-heart) techniques for selected high-risk patients.
Robotic & Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery
Da Vinci-assisted procedures and small-incision approaches for valve repair, ASD closure, and selected bypass cases — with shorter hospital stays.
Heart Valve Repair & Replacement
Mitral, aortic, and tricuspid valve surgery, including valve-sparing repair when feasible.
Aortic Root & Aneurysm Surgery
Bentall procedure, valve-sparing root replacement, and surgical management of aortic aneurysm and dissection.
Peripheral Vascular Surgery
Femoropopliteal bypass, drug-coated balloon angioplasty, and atherectomy for peripheral arterial disease.
Venous Disease Treatment
Radiofrequency ablation, cyanoacrylate closure, and pharmacomechanical thrombectomy for varicose veins and deep vein thrombosis.
Patient Reviews
“I came to Istanbul for a triple bypass after my home cardiologist said my case was high-risk. Prof. Türkyılmaz explained every option in detail. The operation went smoothly and I was walking 24 hours later. Six months on, I feel ten years younger.”
Saudi Arabia
“My father had a complex mitral valve operation. The team's care, the cleanliness of the hospital, and the follow-up calls after we returned home were truly exceptional. Highly recommended.”
Egypt
“Robotic bypass surgery — minimal scar, three-day hospital stay, and the surgeon spoke perfect English. He treated my wife and me like family throughout.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions international patients ask most often before booking surgery.
Most coronary bypass and valve patients stay 7–10 days total: 5–6 days in hospital and 3–4 days in a hotel for follow-up before flying home.
For carefully selected patients, robotic surgery offers smaller incisions, less blood loss, and faster recovery. Prof. Türkyılmaz reviews each case to determine the safest approach.
Medipol's cardiac team reports outcomes consistent with leading international centers, with mortality and complication rates below European averages.
Medipol's international patients office works with most major insurers and offers transparent pricing for self-pay patients. Quotes are confirmed before travel.
Yes — the hospital has a dedicated cardiac rehabilitation unit. Patients also receive a written exercise and medication plan to follow at home.
