Professional Biography
Bringing North American precision oncology to international patients in Istanbul.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Soytaş is a fellowship-trained urologic oncologist at Medipol Mega University Hospital. Born in Kayseri in 1985, he completed his medical degree at Hacettepe University in 2011 and his urology specialty training at Istanbul Medipol University in 2017. His specialty thesis examined renal vascular (ischemia) modeling in kidney cancer surgery.
After serving as a urology specialist at Diyarbakır Gazi Yaşargil and Bakırköy Dr. Sadi Konuk training hospitals, he joined Istanbul Medipol University as Assistant Professor in 2019. He earned the Associate Professor (Doçentlik) title in 2022. From 2021 to 2025, supported by TÜBİTAK and Istanbul Medipol University, he completed a four-year research and clinical fellowship at McGill University in Canada and several large centers in the United States, focusing on urogenital cancers — prostate, bladder, kidney, and testicular cancer.
During this time he co-led one of the largest Kidney Cancer Genetics studies in North America, established a cancer research laboratory and biobank, and completed the McGill Uro-Oncology Clinical Fellowship — three years of active patient consultation and open and robotic cancer surgery. Dr. Soytaş also passed the European Board of Urology examination, earning the FEBU title. He is one of very few surgeons in Turkey and worldwide trained in all three focal prostate cancer therapies: HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound), IRE (Irreversible Electroporation), and Cryotherapy. He continues his research at Istanbul Medipol University's SABITA Cancer Research and Biobank Center.
A cancer diagnosis is overwhelming, but it is also a moment when expert hands and the right technology can change everything. My work in Canada and the United States gave me access to the newest tools — and my mission is to deliver that same standard to every patient who walks through our doors in Istanbul.
Surgical Specialties
Robotic, focal, and minimally invasive uro-oncology procedures.
Robotic Radical Prostatectomy
Da Vinci-assisted prostate cancer surgery with nerve-sparing techniques to preserve continence and erectile function.
Focal Prostate Cancer Therapy (HIFU / IRE / Cryotherapy)
Treatment of the cancerous area only, sparing the rest of the prostate. Trained in all three modalities at North American centers.
Robotic Partial & Radical Nephrectomy
Kidney cancer surgery preserving as much healthy kidney tissue as possible, including complex tumors.
Robotic Radical Cystectomy
Bladder cancer surgery with intracorporeal urinary diversion (Studer pouch, ileal conduit) using minimally invasive approaches.
HOLEP — Holmium Laser Enucleation of Prostate
Gold-standard laser surgery for benign prostatic enlargement, suitable for prostates of any size.
Smart Prostate Fusion Biopsy
MRI-ultrasound fusion-guided targeted biopsy for higher cancer detection accuracy and fewer cores.
Patient Reviews
“Diagnosed with localized prostate cancer at 58. Dr. Soytaş offered me HIFU instead of full removal. Three days in Istanbul, no incontinence, no erectile issues. Truly grateful.”
Kuwait
“Robotic kidney surgery for a 5cm tumor. The surgeon explained every option. I was discharged in 4 days and back to work in 3 weeks. He answered every WhatsApp message after I returned home.”
Romania
“I had been told I needed a full prostate removal. Dr. Soytaş's fusion biopsy showed a small focal lesion. He treated it with cryotherapy. No complications, follow-up MRI clean.”

Frequently Asked Questions
What patients ask before traveling for prostate, kidney, or bladder cancer treatment.
Focal therapy is best for localized, low- to intermediate-risk prostate cancer with a clearly visible lesion on MRI. Dr. Soytaş reviews each patient's MRI and biopsy to recommend the safest approach.
Robotic surgery typically offers smaller scars, less blood loss, faster recovery, and better preservation of urinary continence. For experienced surgeons, oncologic outcomes are equivalent.
Most robotic partial nephrectomy patients stay 5–7 days in hospital and a further 3–5 days locally for follow-up before flying.
It depends on the cancer type, stage, and pathology results. Dr. Soytaş works with the multidisciplinary tumor board at Medipol to create an individual post-surgery plan.
Yes — HOLEP is one of the few techniques that works equally well for prostates over 100g, with low recurrence rates. It is preferred over open surgery in most cases.
